In advance of TCAF, I finally had to buckle down and get my YEAR 40 comics printed up. It was quite a pile of paper and quite a long haul of Manien folding and me stapling. An hour and a half solid each of the past three nights! I will have these available for purchase after I am back from TCAF in May.
And here is a great video to promote TCAF. If you are in Toronto, come see me, May 7 and 8 because I will be there.
The final YEAR 40 Project comics are posting over here. I think there will be something like 120 – 150 pages of comics once I get them all printed up. Not bad!
In other news, there is snow here in Vancouver. In November? This is not what one comes to expect, living in this town.
Well yesterday was my birthday, and so now I am finally 40. I had a couple of pages to finish from the weekend, and so I just finished the drawing on my Year 40 Project. For the grand finale, I did hourly comics about my day yesterday. I will get these all posted at some point.
I also more or less successfully got my Top 40 cds done. I tried to keep the first volume more upbeat and happy. I could still tweak here and there if I let myself. Here are the lists:

Another project that I decided I wanted to do for my 40th birthday was to put together a compilation of great songs, with one from each year I have been alive – a TOP 40! So I culled through Billboard lists, and wikipedia lists and my own collection of music, trying to get it down to one song for each year. As I got into the 80s this became increasingly difficult as I was much more familiar and attached to the music, and I would have fifteen songs on my “shortlist.” So I decided I would make a TOP 40 Volume II, to accommodate some of the things I couldn’t quite fit on the first volume. Now as my birthday approaches rapidly and I actually start pulling together these compilations the reality of gathering and fine-tuning 80 songs is making my head spin!
Anyhow, the YEAR 40 Project continues. Here is a page I rather liked.
I have had a nice decadent four day weekend. Some visiting, some wandering around downtown, some flaking out, a decent amount of drawing. Some friends have been doing neat things: Josue did a drawing each day in October and had some fun colouring them. Brian has been making funny little songs about people on Twitter, including one for me! Simon is working on a comic about a guy and a gorilla. Don’t forget to keep up with the November comics. The Year 40 Project is just over a week from completion! Here is a drawing I did while hanging out with Josue.
I got all my YEAR 40 comics from October loaded up for easy reading. Including the one below, that I only just drew today.
Well we are closing in on the end of the YEAR 40 Project, just a few more pages of October to do, and then the 22 day countdown in November. You can read the October comics over here for now.
I have also gotten a bunch of new Page One Hundred Project submissions this week, one from Italy and a bunch more from our Page One Hundred friends in Croatia! Some cool looking stuff there.
And it is Halloweekend, which means I am busting out the Mega-j!
Oh ha, I forgot to mention I was going to be at Canzine
It was fun being at this show and the Word on the Street where it is a little less of a comic crowd, so you see different folk. Also at both these locations I was able to say “There is a scene in True Loves that is set right across the street!” Also, at Canzine, after I chatted with people for a while, and then they sheepishly left without buying anything, they would say “Thank you” which I found kind of funny and endearing.
Later at the comic jam, Colin Upton put forth the question (as he periodically does) “How many comics have you done?” as we both have quite a few kicking around. And I know I have printed over 50 comics, but then it gets pretty murky as I have all this stuff that I have only ever put on the internet, and sometimes they are just one offs, or unfinished, or whatever, so how would I count them? Do the drunk comics count as one comic each? Or do they all count as one? Or do they not count at all? So I think I am giving up on the count.
In other news, the final comic of my YEAR 40 September comics is up. Read em all over here!
