Sonne statt Reagan

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

And then something I had not heard of until just this morning. Joseph Beuys… pop song – Sonne statt Reagan 1982 (Sun instead Reagan). How peculiar.

For contrast here is the kind of art he was known for.

Joseph and a Book

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Looking through an art book, I was inspired to draw Joseph Beuys doing the ol’ How to Explain Pictures to a Dead Hare.

And here is something I drew about a walk with Manien on the weekend.

Music for a Sunny Sunday

Sunday, February 26th, 2012

I somehow missed that there was a new album by I’m From Barcelona last year! Here are two songs from it, and another nice song that is an Au Revoir Simone cover. Nice happy springtime music.

Major Briggs’ Vision

Saturday, February 25th, 2012

For some reason I was thinking of this scene as I walked home in the pouring rain.

Whew. Gets me every time. I did this drawing of it, a couple of years back. I must be about due for a Twin Peaks re-watch.

Sketchbook Wrapup

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

New True Loves 3. I was happy with how this page turned out.

Finally finished my sketchbook, and as has been my thing for ages, I drew myself for the final drawing. I did this one with my new webcam which I have still not used yet.

Sketchbook Finale

And earlier (the second last drawing) I found this photo on flickr and did this drawing.

I thought it was just a photo of a stuffed ram head, and then saw there were actually these sheep-headed men parading!

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012

I was having trouble getting going on my drawing tonight and so I did my thing of looking at the most recent uploads to flickr and found this nice photo. Then I drew it and that got me in gear and I drew for three hours.

Crumbling Building

Also I was looking through old photos and found this one.

Laying with Logs

Also, I love a good mixed tape. And so these days I burn mixed cds listen to while I’m having breakfast or doing dishes or whatever. On my most recent “A Spring is Sprinin'” I was enjoying the mix of actual 80s songs and 80s contemporary stuff in this sequence:

Sunday Night Blues

Monday, February 20th, 2012

I was feeling a little down earlier, the Sunday Night Blues coming on, and I made the mistake of reading this article about how oil interests try to discredit scientists talking about climate change. Which reminded me of this one also, how the it is in the oil industry’s interest to have people disbelieve climate change. The forces that would rather deny that we’re driving towards a cliff because their business relies on our continuing to drive. “No! No! Keep driving!”

But anyways, I stumbled upon this Nick Cave song I hadn’t heard before.

And then this Men Without Hats one, that maybe I’ve heard, but not for a long time.

Drawings of the Weekend

Sunday, February 19th, 2012

So, I was ehem watching Breaking Dawn part 1. which felt a lot less rushed, much like the first part of the Harry Potter that they split in half. But one scene that jumped out at me was where the werewolf pack, in human form, were hanging out at a beach. And I thought when do you ever see a scene in a movie with a large group of only First Nation people hanging out? You don’t.

Here are some drawings I’ve done this weekend. I asked the internet what to draw and one person said seagullz and one said hands and so I drew this.

Seagull with Hands

The internet also suggested drawing cars, so I drew the Mazda 3. I am not a car person and don’t drive, but as I walk up and down the hill recently I have been getting really fixated on a slightly different new look I’m seeing in the cars. This week I got really particularly focused on the Mazda 3’s abundance of extra swooshes.

Obsessive Car Lines

It was a rainy morning and I drew the backyard.

And then noticed there was a monster in the garden.

Finally, I got around to colouring this drawing of Jacques Renault at the Pink Room from back when I rewatched Fire Walk with Me.

Junco Language

I was thinking about human scale and the scale of the universe last week, and was recalling this mind blowing thing, which is now enhanced.

And I drew a bird comic.

Drawings and Comics and so forth

Friday, February 10th, 2012

There was this window this week where it was sunny and I slept well and I could really get down to business. On the weekend there was celebration and lazing. I started reading the Journal of Dora Damage by Belinda Starling. It was one of those books that just grabbed me and I read it all day Sunday and finished it a couple of days later. Quite enjoyable. But then in the afterword it said that the author died just after she finished writing it! And it was the only book she wrote! Sad.

But anyways, as I say, business. Drawing. New True Loves 3.

I have been gradually catching up on my podcasts from the past couple of months. I quite enjoyed the Josh Blue, Russell Brand and Bert Kreisher episodes of WTF. I’m sure there were many other things I enjoyed in there. Lots of XFiles and Better Off Ted and Community. The L-Word and some Darjeeling Limited.

And I have been trying to finish off this sketchbook, so here are some drawings. I have been enjoying finding random photos on flickr and trying to draw them.

An Office

I went to the bank (by myself).

And here is a creepy ol’ video for Die Antwoord’s latest. It is freaky, but I find it catchy!
