home board email Hm okay my timeline is getting muddled here, as this strip was definitely drawn while at the Alderman... 11:10 - Queen is on the 'Jute Boks!' I was discussing Kingston and the Tragically Hip with WW and saying how one of their songs that had a special place in my heart was 'Bobcaygeon' and he made fun of my grievous misspelling of it here. Now as I Google the heck out of it, I see it was the Men They Couldn't Hang, who sang with an aryan twang. Ah yes, I couldn't quite remember that in my state at that point. But anyways that song and video always made me sad, in a nice way. My older brother went to Queens in Kingston, where the Hip originated, and once, years ago while visiting relatives in Manitoba he would make reference to going to Queens in Kingston and everyone would always be 'Kingston? The HIP!' and I found it endearing that it was this unifying factor across the country, and it was at that point that my light fondness for the Hip began to develop. Seeing this strip, WW was heard to say 'Is that the constellations revealing themselves one star at a time?' which I assumed was from the song, but couldn't really recall. At that point. I was playing some songs on the juke box, including some Cancon, in the form of Buck 65, who was on a Junos album of all things. If you're not Canadian, most of this post probably won't make any sense to you. |
