November 20, 2008 negligentia Oh I seem to have missed last week. Sorry, friends. Not that I have too much to report anyways. Some lovely sunshine the past couple of days. Some working, some drawing, some watching of 30 Rock - hilarious! Meanwhile the cruel teasing continues in True Loves 2 and Uphill Downhill is finished, so you can read that whole thing in one deeply satisfying sitting now. November 6, 2008 and the rain it hammered down Oh we are into that dark and damp time of year for real. Can't really complain because we have had a nice fall for the most part, and the leaves were able to change colours and stay on the trees for a while, rather than just being rained onto the ground and turning to brown mush. Also I am very tired, but can't really complain because I had two free meals out yesterday, so that was fun. Have you read True Loves 2 and Uphill Downhill? October 30, 2008 the most wonderful time of the year I would have to say that Halloween is my favourite holiday. I enjoy dressing up. I enjoy the decorations. It is fun. And my workplace actually seems pretty into it, so that is nice too. I hope you all are doing something fun for it. Anyways True Loves 2 is new today and Uphill Downhill is heading towards the finish line. October 23, 2008 Getting Back on Track Not too much going on this week. I could do with less than five workdays though, I tell ya. Look, it is a brand new True Loves 2 for the first time in ages! And Uphill Downhill is still going strong. Both these stories are getting closer to being done, where I am at with the drawing, not the online updating. October 20, 2008 Another 24 Hours It was 24 Hour Comic Day on the weekend, so I did one. It is called ditched. It actually took me 25 hours, but it is in colour. It has come to my attention that Serializer is back up, so you can read all of True Loves 2 to date again. It will be back updating on Thursdays. And Uphill Downhill is updating weekdays still. Gosh that almost makes me seem productive. October 16, 2008 New Season's Resolution On the weekend Manien and I got a new tv. The smallest the store had, and it still feels like a miraculous improvement over our old unit, which buzzed whenever there was text on the screen. So we have been happily watching movies and tv shows, admiring everyone's pores, rejoicing every time there are subtitles on the screen [with no buzzing]. Decadent. And True Loves 2 continues to play catch up. I have been putting multiple episodes up on the weekends to speed things up. Also Uphill Downhill is updating weekdays still. I think I will do a 24 Hour Comic this weekend, so that should be up next week I guess. October 6, 2008 Sort of Back I finally decided to put True Loves 2 on Webcomicsnation, just so people can read it again. Unfortunately it will take a little while for me to get it all caught up. Maybe just next weekend? And then we can get back to regular updates. Thank you for your patience. Also I've got some Uphill Downhill set to run weekdays for the next few weeks at least. What else? Not too much. Manien and I have been watching some tv shows on dvd again. Heroes, a couple of seasons of the highly entertaining Weeds. Oh, and I was at Word Under the Street and at a launch for You Ain't No Dancer 3, which I have a story in. Those are some links to some photos there. Go buy the book too, it is great. September 18, 2008 Special Anti-bonus Just when one problem is solved, another arises. Serializer is flat out down now. Oh well, I am still drawing away on True Loves 2. And Uphill Downhill is still updating for you weekdays. Also, I should be on the radio on Inkstuds between 2 and 3 today, Vancouver time. It is to promote the new volume of You Ain't No Dancer, which I have a story in. The interview will be available there afterwords too, so don't panic if that doesn't work for your schedule. September 16, 2008 Special Bonus Luckily Manien is paying attention. I posted the True Loves hangover comic, but forgot to post the one that begat the hangover! Oh and now it doesn't seem to be working! Oh but maybe I fixed it! Who knows? Try to see it... True Loves 2. September 11, 2008 The Big Movie Haircut There is a movie shooting close to my work. It is always kind of exciting when suddenly a parking lot or whatever transforms into... a used car lot! Unfortunately the movie is Cats and Dogs 2, so that is not as exciting. Speaking of 2, Serializer is finally functioning again, and so there is a new True Loves 2. And have you been following along with Uphill Downhill and Sitting Around? They have been updating every day this week, and Uphill/Downhill will continue that way next week. The comics are a rockin' again. September 8, 2008 Still No Love Still having Serializer issues, so no True Loves yet. To compensate, Uphill Downhill and Sitting Around will be updating every day this week. AND if that wasn't enough also I finally got around to finishing and colouring and scanning some camping comics. I had an unusually productive weekend! And even helped Manien in the garden on Saturday. The garden is starting to have that ratty autumn look. August 29, 2008 Loveless Week In case you were wondering, Serializer seems to be doing some sort of transition, and so I can't update the comic. Sorry! I'm going camping this weekend! This LONG weekend! August 21, 2008 Houseguest Party My mom and my younger brother were visiting this past week, and man it was good to have them around. We hung around, drove up a mountain, ate food, watched movies. It was great. And the weather was hot, and then the weather was cool and wet. Today seems to be a mix of the two. But anyways it was tricky to get this week's comic done! If you tuned in earlier today you would have seen a black and white version of the comic, but here now is the regular colourific True Loves 2. I think I have fallen off program with those other two comics. Oh well! August 14, 2008 Celebrationary Last Friday we had people over for an 08 08 08 dinner. It was a lot of fun, and we living room-danced into the night. Then Saturday was Manien and my 2nd wedding anniversary. Two years already! We are still very happy, happier than ever! And on Saturday we were watching a movie and a bird flew in through the front door. It did a lap of the room and zoomed out the back. August 7, 2008 A Long Weekend Time Ago It feels like a long time ago that it rained on the garden, but it was just a week. I guess a long weekend makes all the difference. Enjoy. July 31, 2008 Rainy Day People August already, crazy. It finally rained this week, and it refreshed the air, perked up the plants, cleaned off the sidewalks. I think we'd need a bit more before the grass would get green again. I forgot to update Uphill Downhill and Sitting Around, but they will return Monday to Friday next week. And True Loves 2 is new today. July 24, 2008 CG and Jack This week I am reading Memories, Dreams and Reflections by CG Jung which is fairly interesting, as he goes on and on and on for fifty pages about his struggles with god and religion in his youth... and then skims over other major matters that led him to psychiatry. Psychology? I guess I should read more carefully. And somehow not that far up the road I am also reading the first book of Jack Kirby's Fourth World Omnibus. Oh what fun and crazy stuff! Epic! Weather: It has been cool and cloudy for the past three days, looking like it should rain. But no rain has come. Comics for a grey day: True Loves 2, Uphill Downhill and Sitting Around. July 17, 2008 dry and sticky The grass is like yellow straw out there. And for a block in any direction from the 7-11 the sidewalk is sticky from spilled Slurpees and Big Gulps. But it is all pleasant and sunny and summery. Manien just brought in a good sized cucumber from the garden. I totally felt like today should have been Friday. July 10, 2008 the weeds Last week Manien and I were walking by a long vacant lot and noticed how the weeds and trees were getting quite tall. It is one of those lots that they seem to chop the plants down every couple of years, put up a new FOR LEASE sign and then gradually the plants come back and the sign falls over. The plants are always happy to take over again. Same thing on a little patch by someone's garage down the alley that in the winter was a gravelly eyesore with bits of construction debris. Now it is bursting with wild plants that are almost as tall as me. It makes me think of the book the World Without Us, which is a pretty interesting read, about what would happen if people suddenly weren't on the planet any more. How things might decay and recover. Also I have been reading the Hundred Mile Diet this week, so these things are on my mind. Garlic, raspberries, peas and asparagus from the garden! Anyways, also comics: True Loves 2, Uphill Downhill and Sitting Around. July 3, 2008 super long weekend it I had a glorious decadent four day weekend. Many adventures were engaged in, several movies watched. Finally saw Iron Man, and it was such fun. I would like a four day weekend every week, please. The patio concrete was warm under my feet. Manien was watering the garden and when I stepped on the garden hose it was cold and the contrast pleased me. Finished up watching Veronica Mars season three. Sad that it is all done with. The other day Manien noticed that someone had stolen several pots from our backyard. One with bamboo in it, and two with peppers. How finky is that? Thieves are jerks! Anyways, there are a bunch of comics for you to read... True Loves 2, Uphill Downhill and Sitting Around. June 15, 2008 outside inside I am not sure why I seem to be doing so many comics all of a sudden. I feel a little guilty, that I am not focusing on the ONE IMPORTANT COMIC... but anyways, here are a few little comics I drew last weekend. It is sunny outside, so why am I in here scanning things? June 12, 2008 i am official I have finally been upgraded from temp to permanent at my job, which is good. And I am already making more money than I did at my previous job, so it is happy endings all around. Except for maybe this summer which is just refusing to get sunny. Oh well. Last weekend I was on the Island and had a good time playing with my niece-in-law and climbing around on logs. I drew some comics and did a drawing, but I haven't gotten around to scanning them yet. In the mean time there is True Loves 2, Uphill Downhill and Sitting Around to entertain you. June 6, 2008 love in the rainy season Boy wasn't that an exciting week? I mean never mind that it was grey and rainy and kind of depressing and didn't feel like summer at all. The part where you had lots of new comics to read, that was cool wasn't it? June 3, 2008 more new stuff Okay here is the other new comic, called Uphill Downhill. Hm, looking at those new buttons over to the right there, I guess I should fix them a bit so they match the other ones. Oh well, a project for another day. This is another off-the-cuff, unplanned, straight-to-ink project. Just stuff to keep myself drawing. June 2, 2008 celebrate summer I have a couple of comic projects that I have been drawing recently that I'm putting online starting this week. The first one is called Sitting Around, and it will update Monday, Wednesday and Friday for now. They are just little wordless four panel comics, drawn straight into ink with no plan of what they're going to be. May 29, 2008 the crows on my head Down the back alley there are some crows that live in these trees. All spring they have been squawking and carrying on, but now they seem to have hit that protective stage where they get REALLY worked up every time you walk by their trees. So on my way to work, on my way home at lunch, on my way back and on my final walk home, they get all noisy and hostile. Come on guys! I'm just trying to get down the alley! At least they have not been swooping too much. Anyhow, no crows in this week's True Loves 2. May 22, 2008 in the trees Manien and I had an actual long holiday weekend off together, for the first time in a long time. Maybe years? So we went on a little roadtrip into Washington and camped and took pictures of me in front of various locations from Twin Peaks. It was pretty awesome. Now back at work for a short week, and the sun seems to be hiding. Read this week's True Loves 2. May 8, 2008 music and ties An unexpected excitement this week: my cousin fixed the sound on my computer! So I am listening to music as I type and it is making me most happy. My other big news is that I have been wearing a tie to work. I have never done this before, and it is kind of novel. Oh and we have had asparagus from the garden several times! It is awesome. Read this week's True Loves 2. May 1, 2008 may already Wow look at that, time to turn the calendar already. The year is flying by... although it feels like ages and ages since December. Time. It is funny. There have been a couple of really beautiful days this week, when suddenly the colours are just pouring off everything as I go up and down the hill. It is good for the soul. Exciting times. And the other day there was this invigorating spring wind blowing. It hasn't been especially nice out, but the flowers are coming up and cherry blossoms are blowing everywhere. I started a new sketchbook. I am not feeling too bad at all. Also True Loves 2. APRIL 10, 2008 the Sunbeam in my Mind There is a sunbeam coming in the window. These days seem to have gotten so long all of a sudden! I seem to be having a lot of ideas this week. Laying awake for half an hour with story inspirations rolling through my head when I really sort of need to get back to sleep. Well, that is a problem I don't mind having, I guess. Also, read True Loves 2. APRIL 3, 2008 Tree Down The weather seems better this week, just in time for me to be at a new job. Oh well, it makes it nice walking up and down the hill, as the new job is very close by. I can even come home for lunch, which I don't think I've done since about grade five. Manien and I have been watching Battlestar Galactica. Very enjoyable, and we are zooming into season 2.5 currently. Read this week's True Loves 2. MARCH 27, 2008 A Million Daily Weathers Crazy weather all week. Sun to clouds to rain to sun and so on. Manien has been off as well, and she has been getting busy, fixing things around the house, spring cleaning, taking care of business! So that has been fun. Yesterday we went on an adventure into Surrey, and on the way took the Millenium line on the Skytrain which was exciting. We never have any reason to go way out that way. They have pretty stations. Read True Loves 2. MARCH 20, 2008 Send Me a Rainbow The rain and sun are playing tag out there, and it seems like they should at least work a rainbow in there somewhere. MARCH 6, 2008 Life on the Rollercoaster Lately Manien and I have enjoyed going for walks and looking at all the strange and misguided houses. Appreciating things that look nice and work, wondering what people were thinking with some of the other things going on. It is fun on a sunny afternoon. Unrelated, I finished up a non-True Loves story this week and that is a big relief. I need to really get motoring on the Loves. Also unrelated, this week's tv show is 30 Rock. LEAP YEAR! Everyone should have a February 29th celebration tomorrow! Maybe Manien and I will have a garden party, as it has been so balmy here this week. Well, a little rainy still. But warm. On the weekend we worked in the garden a bit. I still have lots of holes in my fingers from pruning the rose bushes. Here is this week's True Loves 2! FEBRUARY 21, 2008 Total Eclipse of the Moon Did everyone see the eclipse last night? Luckily the clouds cleared enough here in Vancouver so we could see it. Very cool. I am reminded of the solar eclipse we had way back when I was a lad in Manitoba. Some research suggests it was 1979. That was pretty exciting too. Also, True Loves 2! FEBRUARY 14, 2008 Light in the Morning Look at that, some light at 7am in the morning. How exciting! And sunny too. I went for a lovely walk yesterday and didn't even need my sweater. Just a light jacket. Sorry to all you folks still stuck in the snow! Wow I totally forgot that today was Valentine's Day. Um... spread the love and all that if you are into that sort of thing. FEBRUARY 7, 2008 Slush'd Again I was internet chatting with my brother in Toronto about their snow yesterday and was saying that I thought Vancouver was done with it for the year. Mere hours later there was snow here. Dang. Oh well, it looks like maybe a sunny day out there now. I finally made a little page for myhourly comic day comics. It feels like ages since I have actually done a new page for my actual site here, and it felt very complicated! Also I am tired of the fonts at the top of the page here. JANUARY 31, 2008 a pile of slush After a week of the weather people swearing it was going to snow, it finally snowed here. Like an actual pile of snow that has lasted a couple of days. Read about it! Join in the fun! JANUARY 24, 2008 showing art Oops, I forgot to update this last week and now it is the next week! There was the Inkstuds artshow in there. An opening, a comic jam, a small press fair. Good fun. The wooden comic Manien and I made fell off the wall at some point, but it is sturdy and survived. Here is what it looks like. It is called MURDER. True Loves 2! JANUARY 17, 2008 mixamitosis The rain has stopped but now it is a little chilly out. Like just above freezing. Boohoo. Last weekend Manien and I saw the highly enjoyable movie Juno. There was a lot of good music in it, and other good music referred to in it, so I became a little fixated on making a mixed cd of the soundtrack with a few songs added and changed from the real soundtrack album. This occupied me much of Sunday, and I was quite pleased with the results. But then I overlistened it and have had to put it away. It did however fill me with a desire to make more mixes! Which is maybe not the best use of my time at this juncture. Read True Loves 2! JANUARY 10, 2008 here in 2008 It is a rainy year here, 2008. I suppose each day has at least some portion that is rainless, a good time for a walk, but each morning seems quite grey and rainy. Manien and I bought a hiking map [aka Viking Map] of North Vancouver and excitedly trace all the various paths and routes around the mountains. Earlier this week we attempted to follow one path but ended up on a different path not on the map. It was quite a pleasant walk anyways, and it dispelled the blues I was feeling that day. [Even though I walked into a branch and gouged my forehead!] Read this week's colourful True Loves 2! JANUARY 3, 2008 anew day I tell you I could get used to this not working stuff. It feels like every day is this vast field of possibility stretching out ahead of you. In the past week I feel like I have seen more of North Vancouver than I had in three years! Just a few nice walks with Manien to areas I had never been. It is exciting! You can see photos from an epic solo walk I went on here. I will have to find work soon, but for now, life is sweet. Go read this week's True Loves 2! And also go read John Campbell's Hourly Comic. DECEMBER 27, 2007 a happy holiday I'm not having the week I was expecting at all. Manien and I quit our jobs and so we are enjoying a little holiday for the first time in five years. How pleasant. Also unexpectedly, there is a little bit of snow outside, though I don't imagine it will last. So yes, a week that was all set to suck ends up just fine. Let's hope Zander has the same luck in True Loves 2. DECEMBER 19, 2007 and traffic goes crazy It has been a grey and drizzly week, but today got rather sunny. I was of course indoors all day. And the traffic on the way home! Whoah nelly I always block out just how terrible it gets at this time of year. It took half an hour to clear the mall today, a ride which takes less than five minutes on a normal day. And then on the crowded bus everyone is loaded with gigantic bags of crap. At least Manien and I had a seat. But work has simmered down for me. And Manien and I finished watching Twin Peaks. Sad to have it over. But then Lost season three is out! Many things to watch. Last weekend Manien and I did some True Loves writing, and then went bowling! It was fun, though I was embarrassingly sore for days. And there was the third anniversary of the Vancouver Comic Jam that day too. Good fun. A good weekend! And now read True Loves 2. DECEMBER 13, 2007 halfway I can't believe there are still two weeks of the Season to endure before xmas. Yes, still busy at work. Still working happily through Twin Peaks. Manien and I dropped by this Transit Camp thing on Saturday. It was all right, but we got there late in the proceedings and aren't really... talk in large groups of people kind of people. But it was a neat event, with lots of well-informed transit enthusiasts talking transit. And a really spectacular view. Um.. what else? Nothing much I guess. True Loves 2. DECEMBER 6, 2007 three eagle walk Wow, another stinky busy old week at work, sort of drowning everything else out. But it did at least mellow out yesterday. The only thing keeping me from sinking fully into despair was TWIN PEAKS. Well not really, but Manien and I have been watching it, and it just makes me so very happy, and reminds me of just how deep an impression it made on me. Earlier in the week we had snow, and then it was all washed away by rain, and then the river was high, and now our water is cloudy again. But this morning it was sunny and when I was walking to work I saw three eagles. Here is this week's True Loves 2. NOVEMBER 28, 2007 punch the season This week the holiday season has kicked in more seriously at my work, so I am all tired and worn out. But not in a terrible terrible mood, so that is something. Not much else to say I guess. I think I'm hungry. Sorry! That's all I have today. True Loves 2. NOVEMBER 22, 2007 zit 37 As I walked to work this morning [on the lame non-nature route] it was dark until 7am and I thought 'it is going to be two months before it starts getting lighter than this' DANG. But it was a nice sunny day and I was in a good mood and after Thursday I start a three day weekend, so all is swell. Lots of changes at work and possibly Big Plans also. Here is this week's True Loves 2. NOVEMBER 15, 2007 these days are dark Boy it gets to feeling like it is late at night when it is only 5:30, with all this darkness and rain. I went out on my lunch today and since it wasn't raining I decided to walk by the ocean. It was kind of eerie down there, with a quiet calm and the water higher than I have ever seen it. Seeing identical dogs and couples in identical outfits, with menacing clouds overhead. I was just about back to work when the rain started. And when I got to my office I could hear it pounding on the roof. So that was a cool little lunchtime adventure. Don't forget to check out this week's True Loves 2. NOVEMBER 8, 2007 timeshift I tried to think of something to write about... but nothing came to mind. Manien suggested the time change. It has impacted my walk to work positively, so that it is now just getting light if I work at 7, and nice and light for the whole walk if I work at 8. Interesting stuff, huh? Though I have been walking through the forest even when it is dark. It is a little spooky, but nice. As long as I don't encounter skunks, I am fine. Let's see, what else? Last night I bought a cd from a guy on the street. He was just so sweet, I couldn't say no. It was nice enough, guitar and singing stuff. Okay, enough of that, read this week's True Loves 2. NOVEMBER 1, 2007 Halloween I miss you! I had an all right Halloween. Dressed up as an office devil at work, wandered around a bit after work. Watched John Carpenter's 'the Thing' after I finished colouring this week's True Loves 2. But then today was a bummer, tired out, the fun Halloween-y vibe gone. Stores starting the xmas ramp-up before Halloween's body is even cold. Oh well. Time goes on. OCTOBER 25, 2007 Ring Ranga Dong Well it is feeling very holiday-like today for me. The cold I've been fighting off all week seems to be under control, I FINALLY got my passport taken care of, and it is sunny out. I even bought pants. And it is sunny and pleasant and I am going to fry up some potatoes for lunch. Last night Manien and I finished season one of Heroes and it came to an enjoyably satisfying end, not a cliffhanger. Other shows should take a lesson from that. Also, don't forget to read True Loves 2. OCTOBER 22, 2007 24 and 16 Well here I am on vacation. Tra la la. I did end up doing a 24 hour comic on the weekend. Whew! It actually took me 25.5 hours. I think it was a little elabourate for the time frame, since I was working larger than the last one I did, and in colour. But it came out all right. So go on and read 16 Hole. OCTOBER 17, 2007 a vacation for no reason Two more days and I have a week off! No reason, just a break between the stress of thanksgiving and the stress of xmas. I am hoping to draw some comics. Maybe a 24 hour comic? I do not know yet. Read this week's True Loves 2 while I make up my mind. OCTOBER 11, 2007 slow news week Not really much going on this week, now that Thanksgiving is over. So I will make a little list of things that bugged me on my way home from work: 1. No late fees at a video store. Which may sound stupid, but I pretty much never return things late, and with no late fees, the movies are always out. 2. People walking across a street when the light is red against them and there are cars coming. What are they thinking? 3. Sidewalks closed due to construction. I am a pedestrian! And here are things that were nice: 1. Chestnuts all over the place. 2. When the leaves fall, you can see where there are bird nests. 3. Despite no late fees, the third disc of Heroes was in at the video store. Anyways, here is this week's True Loves 2. OCTOBER 6, 2007 thank you girl Oops I almost forgot to post a little hello here. It has been another busy week here at Turbo Central. The launch at Lucky's was a lot of fun, and a good bunch of people came out, including a solid chunk of the local comic superstars. Here are a few photos. And then on Sunday a number of the same folks sat out in the wet and cold at Word Under the Street. It was not as bad as all that though really, sold some books, saw people who had gotten True Loves OUT OF THE LIBRARY, and so on. So that was all good fun. Two photos here. And then back to the drawing to get this week's installment of True Loves 2 done. SEPTEMBER 27, 2007 autumn rushing in Boy I tell you, at my job this is one of the most stressful times of year. A busy string of holidays that just about runs through to say.. Canada Day. Anyhow, I am saying I have had a busy week at the workplatz. On the bright side, it did kick me into gear to get this week's True Loves 2 together earlier than I have been, so that was good and promising. And the final Person on the Busappeared on Monday. Hooray! And I made this little poster-y thing for the launch, which you should come to tomorrow night. Lucky's Comics (3972 Main St., Vancouver) Friday Sept. 28th, 7-10pm. In the end the skies cleared and it was an amazing, joyous show. A coworker who was also there took photos and this one somewhat captures the crazy amount of stuff going on in the show. And of course, read True Loves 2 and Person on the Bus, [which is just about done]. SEPTEMBER 13, 2007 autumn immaculate It sure has been a lovely week here in Vancouver. Fall is sneaking into the trees and the air, but it has been sunny and 20C all week. Perfect! It seems like there is a lot going on in the last part of this month for me. A wedding, a Flaming Lips concert, a book launch with Jim Muroe and Word Under the Street. I will have to post some dates or something! Here is a True Loves 2. which takes place just down the hill from my house. And a Person on the Bus that takes place on... the bus. SEPTEMBER 6, 2007 time to move on The only scrambling this week over comics was due to watching Dexter on DVD. Quite enjoyable! And the movie Everything's Gone Green was great for Vancouver sights, Canadian music and Douglas Coupland-y goodness. Here is this week's True Loves 2. And meanwhile over in the land of the Person on the Bus, we have caught up to the point in August when I was back to work from my vacation. And I have pretty much finished drawing the 100th installment of it, so I think I am ready to move on to other things. AUGUST 30, 2007 double bagged Again I manage to be scrambling and tired trying to get this week's True Loves 2. But again I succeed! I was dead tired Monday, at Comix and Stories Sunday, worked in the evening Tuesday... and here we are. Midnight and I am just putting the comic to bed. Now I should put myself to bed. AUGUST 22, 2007 forced march in august Whew am I beat. I came back from my vacation, spent a couple of quality evenings with Manien before she headed off to the Island on her vacation, and then tried frantically to get this week's True Loves 2 done in the next two evenings. Unfortunately I have not been sleeping well, with the jetlag and so forth. And being back to work. But anyways, I did get it done! Even with my brush dropping and the tip getting ruined halfway through the page! My next challenge is trying to put together a zine of TL2 so far, for Comix and Stories on Sunday! I am busily visualizing it. The Person on the Bus is back updating after a few days away as well. And maybe one day I will have time to post some photos of my vacation, and my report on TCAF, and my comic about reading the final Harry Potter book. AUGUST 2, 2007 vacationing the vacation Oh boy only two days and I am on vacation! Ontario here I come! And so I have been busy drawing this week trying to get a tiny bit ahead on True Loves 2, so you won't be left completely high and dry while I'm gone. And I was pushing to finish this other completely unrelated story too, so I have been unusually productive! The Person on the Bus continues daily also. Enjoy your summer! JULY 25, 2007 the good the bad and that is all I was quite sick earlier in the week, but I am feeling much better now. Unfortunately two days incapacitated and feverish on the couch did not get help along this week's True Loves 2. It is extra unfortunate because there was a nice little article about the comic. There continue to be Person on the Bus comics daily though. I was thinking this week about how they have become rather similar in ways to the Mega Times I was doing a couple of years ago. Well, similar in some ways.. different in others. It could be a continuation though, more or less. JULY 19, 2007 here is the rain again It is raining again after a couple of weeks of warm and sunny weather. That is all right by me, the garden could use some soaking. Hopefully the slugs won't become a pain again. And it was pleasant and sunny last weekend for Manien and me hanging out and having a picnic and so forth, so that was lovely. I was pretty happy with how this week's True Loves 2 came out. Oh and look today's the Person on the Bus is a special double sized edition! JULY 12, 2007 summer vacation 2007 The past couple of weeks have felt a little like a vacation in some ways. And it has been so summery, a little HOT even. I need to buy some shorts! Or at least some lighter pants. As of right now, Manien and I have three days off together. That is another summer vacation for me. This week's True Loves 2 actually required me to go out 'in the field' to research the stretch of Robson there. The internet was not giving me the angles I required. And the the Person on the Bus continues to go up and down, daily. Happy Friday the 13th to you. JULY 5, 2007 indestructible summer This week has been pretty pleasant and painless somehow so far. And today at work most of the day was 'teambuilding' which meant I was out of the office and doing non-work things back in my old Commercial Drive haunts, as it turned out. So that was good. And this weeks True Loves 2 went quite painlessly as well. And as I keep saying, the Person on the Bus is updated Monday to Friday. If you haven't caught up, there is some pretty cosmic, elusive stuff involving the word 'pakora' recently. JUNE 28, 2007 working for the weekend I'm having one of those weeks where I was ready for it to be over fairly early on Monday. Not that it was a terrible week or anything, far from it. The work was relatively painless, the drawing was thoroughly painless. I am just ready for the weekend! I want to be outside. I want to be drawing. I have all this juice bubbling away. Anyhow, a new True Loves 2 and the Person on the Bus continues daily. Happy summer to you. JUNE 20, 2007 pakora I thought I might get a little ahead of the game on True Loves, but of course I just got lazy. But there is a new True Loves 2, nonetheless, if it is Thursday or beyond. Perhaps you also need to catch up on the Person on the Bus? I also have another story I am trying very hard to push ahead on, so I guess I did make some progress there as well. It has turned nice and summery the past two days here, after a couple of fairly dreary weeks, so that is nice. Oh look, tomorrow is the longest day of the year! Get out there and do your Solstice thing everyone! JUNE 16, 2007 doctoring the tardis Sorry but no True Loves this week. I had a crazy week at work, and then had a quick jog down to Seattle for a meeting for my job. I drew this comic on the way down [and a little on the way back]. I had never really been in Seattle before, just passed through. It seems like a pretty cool town. Hopefully a lotta love next week, okay? JUNE 7, 2007 where is the love I feel like I haven't been giving the ol' site here much love lately. Oh well. It is all I can do to get True Loves 2 done each week, never mind spending a lot of time on htmlling! I will remind you though, that the Person on the Bus continues to be updated Monday to Friday. It is like the Daily Grind again! Not really. MAY 30, 2007 wolfman More trials and tribulations in getting this week's True Loves 2 to you. Nothing serious, mind you! Just a terrible funk descending upon me. Coupled with an inability to use the weekend to get ahead on things. MAY 23, 2007 the funny old times Well that long weekend didn't end up producing as many comics as I had hoped it would. It didn't help that I forgot my sketchbook at the comic jam. So Sunday and Monday were a little bit of a waste (as the comics I had planned out were in that forgotten sketchbook!). And it rained all Sunday. Oh well, I have still managed to grind out this week's True Loves 2. And the the Person on the Bus continues weekdays! There are a couple this week that I actually was happy with. This week, drawn earlier in May. MAY 16, 2007 Whoops I did it Yikes, two weeks suddenly fly by with no word at all here at the Project. Well last week just got away from me. I really wanted to see David Lynch's Inland Empire, which was here for just one week, and I had been in Victoria for the weekend visiting one old pal, and then had a 'quick let's have a beer before i'm a dad' beer with another old pal... and suddenly no True Loves. In unrelated news, we've been having some lovely weather. It really makes it sad to sit in a windowless office all day. Oh well! MAY 3, 2007 Rain and Sun and Rain again Quite the funky weather day out there. Pouring rain then sun then dark and rainy again and so on. I guess I only got back from APE at 1:30am Wednesday, and then a couple of days of work, and catching up with Manien. Sorry I didn't even pop by to say "No True Loves this week!" but I was pretty worn out. And other top secret projects were on my mind. But anyways, here are some comics I drew about the trip. And Elfworld is out now, including a story my brother Jody and I wrote and I drew. Also, the new issue of Geist has one of my Walk to Work comics in it! Exciting times. APRIL 18, 2007 APEbound? It feels like it has been a long week, like a lot is going on. Well I guess I have been busy with getting ready for the Alternative Press Expo in San Francisco. I leave tomorrow, and will have six glorious days off work. Should be fun. I wish I could say something enticing like I will have a new book there or something, but no, I'll just be hawking True Loves and a couple of my not so recent minicomics. The other day as I waited for the bus after work, I had to take off my jacket it was so warm! In contrast to that morning when I got rather soaked walking to work. Or today it was fairly okay on the way to work, but pretty darned wet and grey the rest of the day. But it isn't cold, and there are cherry blossoms coming out, hooray! I had a terribly lazy weekend, watching movies and frollicking while Manien was off on the Island. And the past couple of days I have really struggled with getting this week's installment done. I am having a bit of a crisis of faith in my drawings lately. We are having a writing session tomorrow. Also exciting. - Jason Turner JANUARY 23, 2007 where was my mind Oops I seem to have missed posting something about last week's True Loves. Quick, go read it, and then you'll have another episode on Thursday! I was supremely lazy over the weekend, just barely getting out for a drink with a coworker, and then to the comic jam on Saturday. The comic jam I must say was rocking! All kinds of people came, new people, old people, all kinds of pages produced. Good fun. My other thing this weekend [and continuing still] was rereading Tales of the Beanworld, which is a wonderful comic from the 80s/90s that... well it is still pretty much unlike anything else. Fun and warm, mysterious. A gradual revealing of all these things interlocking in the big big picture. But sadly it was left unfinished, and as I searched in vain for new info about it I came across this open letter by another fan who wished there would be some sort of resolution or closure or whatever. People still want it! One other thing! February first is Hourly Comic Day which was created last year by the amazing John Campbell. Last year and this year he has done an hourly journal comic for the entire month of January. Crazy, I know! And then everyone is encouraged to give it a go on February first. I doubt it will stick long, but it does seem like we've had more snow than usual here. I got more on track with True Loves this week as far as being on schedule goes, but I didn't feel I was on top of my game. Inking was a struggle. Oh well. Maybe if I actually get in gear and draw more it will not be so bad. Stripfight was celebrating their 100th round and encouraging lots of people to enter, so I did something for it. Not much else going on this week. Manien and I watched and got into the first season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I got a haircut. Work stressed me out and irritated me. - Jason Turner JANUARY 4, 2007 new year same old Hm I have the day off, and as often happens when I am puttering around, I wait too long to eat and then I get too hungry to figure out what to eat. Sorry it updated late, the holidays threw my schedule off. - Jason Turner DECEMBER 28, 2006 lull week Oh the lull between xmas and new years, which in the modern world often means a whole week off, or more. For me it has meant that the craziness has died down, the store made a gigantic load of money so the bosses are contented, and a quiet falls across the realm. I have actually been sleeping well this week, which perhaps suggests that workstress was related to the poor sleeping I have been having for quite a while. Whew. Here is a new True Loves. - Jason Turner DECEMBER 21, 2006 hoo hoo hoo Well the holiday craziness is almost over, from a retail point of view. Only a few more days to suffer through. I have the day off today, but I'm sick, so I guess that gives me permission to be really lazy. Dang though I had been hoping to get a haircut. Oh well. Here is new True Loves. And this comic is something I did way back in the summer for Broken Pencil magazine, which I have been meaning to post for months! I guess the big wind storm happened in the week since last I posted here. Boy was the north shore a mess last Friday! Electricity out all the way between here and work. Trees knocked over everywhere. Stanley Park all kinds of messed up. Vancouver is getting quite a workout since October. - Jason Turner DECEMBER 10, 2006 oh those robots Hello again. This has not been my month for technical issues! First the internet konks out, and then a week later the computer goes kaput. Annoying! And I am not fully convinced that the machine is not going to go belly up again. I am having trouble regaining computer confidence! And I tell ya, it was kind of weird/depressing how much I missed having the machine and the internet connection! I guess I should take voluntary internet vacations or something. Last week was very stressful and draining at work, so I didn't even draw more or anything. I just wanted to flake out and watch movies, so I did. Here is something I drew weeks ago, on my way to the Island. Everyone loves a superhero on a bus. I'm sure I must have other things kicking around that I haven't put on the net. - Jason Turner NOVEMBER 22, 2006 thirty sixed Oh dear look at me forgetting to update the poor ol' site. For a few days there I have some kind of excuse because the dopey phone service providers screwed up yet again and cut off the internet service. Manien was out of town and well heh she handles that sort of thing, and was out of town, so I was without for a few days. What was annoying at first was good in the end though as it spurred me out of the house to go see Kid Congo, which was a lot of fun. And then there was the comic jam on Saturday. And recovery on Sunday. I actually bought a bunch of comics on Saturday, so I spent Sunday reading them. Fun Home by Alison Bechdel was good reading, and a volume of that Dungeon book by Joann Sfar and Lewis Trondheim kept me busy. As well as a few odds and ends. I am too lazy to walk into the other room to see what they all were! It is my birthday, give me a break. Yes it is true, it is. And to celebrate, here is this week's True Loves. Which has nothing to do with anything but it is a new comic. I hope you have been following along with the Monsters, Ghosts and Walks as well. I guess that is about it. And I tell ya, I had just the most delightful afternoon. I went to the Drive, had lunch at Wazubeez, checked out the changes in the old hood, walked back downtown down the adventure-ridden Hastings... it was great. Took lots of fashion notes. Though I do need more... Don't forget Casual Fridays. I think as I type this at 10.38 west coast time, the new [old] installment is already up. Also, I am listening to Bob Seger. It is awesome. - Jason Turner NOVEMBER 8, 2006 the power of the internet Have you been following along at home? I got Walk to Work set up for Wednesdays. My week has been given some excitement because on the weekend I got some headphones, so suddenly there is a whole internetful of sound and music at my fingertips! I finally caught up with the present! Or maybe more like.. five years ago.. - Jason Turner NOVEMBER 6, 2006 cold november rain Maybe that was a mistake, to walk to work this morning. It was really a-pouring rain! So I was damp up to my knees by the time I made it there. Manien emptied our rain gauge yesterday, and this evening it is almost full again! In non-weather related news, I had the idea on the weekend to archive some of the stuff over at Webcomics Nation. This saves me having to figure out a filing system for them here, and maybe gives some exposure to people who might not come by my site here. Here is a little something I drew today after work, inspired by something I read in Kurt Vonnegut's Bluebeard, which I am in the midst of reading. - Jason Turner OCTOBER 1, 2006 brunchily freakout! I was not in a comics mode at all last week. Zoom, away it went, in a haze of Lost Season Two episodes. I was doing some drawing though, and you can check out what the drawings were for at boomtree. And also any day now there should be a new issue of Broken Pencil out with a one page comic thing in it by me. And miraculously, since I was feeling quite out of sorts most of today, here at last are the final august comics from the honeymoon and so forth. - Jason Turner SEPTEMBER 20, 2006 in the dark Oh just another week, some work, trying to draw. I did a touch more on the august comics. - Jason Turner SEPTEMBER 18, 2006 week of the blarg I was away for the weekend camping with Manien's family. It was a nice time, though having a rowdy two year old along certainly does change the program on a camping trip! We ended up at a great campground called Bradsdadsland on Hornby Island and it was good. Those islands man, they seem so idyllic. On Saturday night I missed the comic jam in Vancouver for the first time in ages so we had the campjam, which was kind of funny and fun. - Jason Turner SEPTEMBER 12, 2006 week of the blarg I seem to sleep pretty badly at least a couple of times a week lately. Which is a drag and doesn't make it easy to get things done when I get home from work, all worn out and bummed out. Although last week I felt compelled to do a little more of the ghost comic and I finally wrapped it up today. Unrelated, this morning, it seemed like there was a lot of stuff going on, from crime scenes, to spilled lentils, to destruction of little 'art projects' of mine. And a guy drinking beer at 7:30am. Oh yah, also, I have a comic in the upcoming You Ain't No Dancer anthology. It will be out in October. Buy it, there are many awesome people in there! And there is a link to a whole bunch of preview pages there too. - Jason Turner SEPTEMBER 5, 2006 inching The weather is holding warm and sunny. The moon is huge tonight. I can't help but notice that True Loves 2 is nowhere to be seen. Boy oh boy. One day. Here is another little vacation comic. - Jason Turner SEPTEMBER 1, 2006 who's that crunching I woke up very early this morning and as I tried to go back to sleep I could hear a crunching in the back yard, like someone eating apples. Eventually I had to see what it was, and looking around in the twilight I could see a raccoon in our corn. He had knocked over EVERY corn stalk and taken liberties with the corn cobs. Dang. Anyhow another little comic here. - Jason Turner AUGUST 20, 2006 day of the dread Look at me being lazy and not drawing or anything for weeks! Well that is not completely true, I drew a few things which I am going to post gradually. Here is a little taste. Oh there are a million tiny details I would love to relate, but there are a million other comics I would like to draw too. Manien and I did have a lovely relaxing lazy honeymoon on Saltspring Island. Read a lot, watched the birds and sea otters. It was nice. But boy I really really am not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow! - Jason Turner AUGUST 10, 2006 blissorama Well the Beautiful Manien and I are now officially married and all. Hoorah! It was a good time, with lots of good friends, and some good living room dancing. And the rain managed to stay on the days before and after the wedding. We are off to Saltspring Island for a week now, so I will be away. Have a good week! - Jason Turner AUGUST 5, 2006 holiday celebrate The updates will likely be infrequent to non-existent in the next couple of weeks, as I am, well you know, GETTING MARRIED on Wednesday. And the family and friends are visiting and keeping me busy. It is beautiful and summery, and good times are being had. See you on the other side! - Jason Turner JULY 31, 2006 half month zap I was re-photocopying the first eight issues of my series ZZLE and Vinegar yesterday, and by golly those are now TEN YEARS old almost. Crazy. Ten years since I came to Vancouver. I should really collect them into a bigger book or something, as they are just flimsy little zines right now. I guess I should get a store set up on my site here, so you could buy them. And I should draw some proper comics! More ghost for today though. July, where did you go?! - Jason Turner JULY 26, 2006 tuckered I don't know what is with me and the lack of drawing recently. It is bumming me out! I did manage to crank out this walking story between yesterday and today. I had a lot of trouble with the last panel. - Jason Turner JULY 24, 2006 rhubarb leaves Searching the internet for uses for rhubarb leaves. They are poisonous apparently. Here is another bit of Mega Times action for you. It continues hot and I have some residual bee-sting on my foot from where I stepped on a bee on the weekend. I'm listening to Twin Peaks music and everything is okay. - Jason Turner JULY 22, 2006 hot on the mountain I drew a couple of little things on Wednesday, and here is the first of them. I don't really have any plans for this weekend. Right now I feel like I could do some tidying. Maybe organize my comics or something. I had one of those spells where work got out of hand and so on. And there was a non-internet comic thing I was getting out of the way. Now I can get back to work on True Loves 2! Just pleasant, after weeks of unstable weather that would never let itself feel like summer for long. Also I have been trying to get some other things drawn. And work has been a wonkitude of meetings and oddities. So there you go. I did pencil about four pages earlier, so that was good. And fresh pesto with steaks for dinner. Manien and I went and bought a suit for me for the wedding, and it was actually quite fun and painless, and I got a really snappy suit. So that was good. And puttering around doing this and that. Then it was off to the comic jam, which was probably the least drawing oriented one ever, though I was at the more drawful table. But good times anyways. I did draw this monster comic on the way to the jam. In other news, last week for some reason I was compelled to buy Meatloaf's Bat Out of Hell album. Strange. - Jason Turner JUNE 14, 2006 ask jason Here I was at the computer, wondering what I should do with myself when I realized I hadn't posted the comics I drew the day Manien and I were on the radio. So there they are. And here is the radio show if you haven't listened to it already. I was having fun on the internet today. So that was good. And I got a way overdue haircut! Not the worst day! - Jason Turner JUNE 13, 2006 busy business day A busy day for me at work, and craziness outside my office with other offices getting switched around. A little wacky outside too, with the weather flipflopping between sunny and stormy every twenty minutes or so. What the heck, Vancouver?! Here is a comic drawn at the bus stop, on the bus, and wrapped up at home. I was going to start a new index of comics a while back, but I keep putting it off. So many things to do. - Jason Turner JUNE 12, 2006 down under loves I got an email from one of our Australian operatives, and he tells me that he has seen True Loves in stores in Sydney! Australia! That is so awesome to me. Had an okay weekend, hanging out with Manien's family some, killing slugs in the garden. And I got drawing at last on a long overdue project. Not this monster comic. - Jason Turner JUNE 9, 2006 tee gee I eff Well today started off rainy, and ended up lovely, and that pretty much holds for me as well. I just finished the second half of some more ghost comic. The excitement earlier today was seeing True Loves in the Georgia Straight, which is somehow extra exciting, because it is you know.. the alternative weekly here in Vancouver. It makes me happy. - Jason Turner JUNE 7, 2006 invincible summer Doesn't summer just make everything so much easier. Well particularly a Vancouver summer where it is basically never going to be uncomfortably hot. And anything that is sucking just kind of melts away with the unstoppable power of a sunny day. It is great! I started another ghost comic on the way home, and finished it when I got here. Just had some lovely steaks and mushrooms and for dessert, cream and strawberries. Lots of talk today about the six six six date, so I did some more devil and ghost comic. And it all conspired to lift my spirits! Yah! - Jason Turner JUNE 5, 2006 the return of work Oh so many things that need attending to. Nothing to do with any of them, here is a monster comic I drew on my way to Victoria on Friday. I had a really great time with Stu, and should probably try to draw a zombie comic tomorrow, if I can get a seat on the bus. I was watching some shows on the Food Network earlier, and quite enjoying them. And I hear it is supposed to be nice for most of the week. Hoorah! - Jason Turner JUNE 1, 2006 the return of the spotty rain I am feeling much better today sickness-wise, and wasn't in a miserable mood all day at work for once, so that is good. Last night Manien and I went to the Drive to pick up the Vancouver Courier with an article on us in it. So that was exciting. A nice big article with a picture and a page from the comic, very cool. It had been so long since I'd been out there. Crazy. And so long since we lived in that area! Like six or seven years! Yow. And also yow that it is June already. Here is a comic I drew on my way home today. I feel a little guilty not colouring it, but I don't think it is really necessary. Terrible, and no water available! I did however draw another monster comic. Like catching my flight last night! I missed it and ended up having to stay an extra night. And then to add insult to injury I discovered that my pal Stu from Victoria was staying in a hotel in the desolate airport zone, just five minutes from mine. Dang. I had a few hours of work plopped in the middle of what should have been a lovely day. I did have a nice sunny walk to work though, so that was good. I'm off to San Francisco tomorrow.
